GCSE Music Students Play On
On Tuesday 26th June the Year 10 music GCSE group attended an innovative music technology workshop at the home of the London Symphony Orchestra, LSO St. Luke’s. They explored the concepts of contemporary composition and sonic art through a hands-on electro-acoustic workshop. During the three hour workshop, students performed new, old and unusual electronic instruments. The finale of this workshop included a 10 minute recording, featuring maestro Beena Mistry as the conductor, Daniel Trainor the theremin man and the virtuosic skills of Tayyab Chaudri on the Cracklebox. This recording also featured members of the Year 10 group performing instruments such as the dance mat, joystick and the PS2 steering wheel. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day, which can be summed up in a quote from Daniel, “When I walked in, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven”.
