Musicians Explore The Science Museum

On Thursday 5th July, 30 students from year 7 visited the Universe of Sound exhibition at the Science Museum. The students were challenged to take on the roles of a conductor by using the conducting simulator; a musician by performing alongside the Philharmonia players on virtual instruments; and even a composer by using interactive tools to influence the shape of Joby Talbot’s new piece, Worlds, Stars, Systems, Infinity. The students rose to the challenge, with some students exceeding the expectations of the animatuers. This included Christopher Paice’s conducting skills, and Danveer Wahda’s knowledge of musical Italian terms. Tasmin Rai stated the highlight of the trip was a fulldome, planetarium-style, projection of the Philharmonia orchestra and its105 players.
