The Heathland School is committed to educating, inspiring and encouraging all students to reach their full potential through a programme of careers education, information and guidance (CEIAG).

Careers information and guidance is not confined to careers lessons but through workplace visits, careers fairs, enterprise days, assemblies, academic visits, mentoring and more.

We also aim to teach the transferable skills required for employment and success after school through the day to day curriculum.

We have developed our provision in line with the Gatsby Benchmark Framework.

The eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance

1. A stable careers programme
2. Learning from career and labour market information
3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
5. Encounters with employers and employees
6. Experiences of workplaces
7. Encounters with further and higher education
8. Personal guidance

At the Heathland School we believe every student should receive impartial, high quality careers guidance to support them in making informed decisions about their education and employment opportunities.

All pupils in Year 11 receive a careers appointment with an advisor from Innervate, an external career service. All Sixth Form Students will receive an appointment with Mr Jaffri to discuss available options.

Any student can approach Mr Jaffri via email or in-person. The careers office has an open-door policy at lunch times and students and parents can also make an appointment or email.

Careers Platforms and Resources:

  • Unifrog – An online platform that’s part of The Heathland’s Career curriculum. This site is used for students to write their Personal Statements for University, as well as exploring careers, apprenticeships, their academic interests, and receiving guidance on CV’s and how to apply for the next step after school. Students can also use Unifrog to find Work Experience placements and providers. All students are issued with an individual school login. (https://www.unifrog.org/)

  • Apprentago – A platform we have recently partnered with for students interested in Higher and Degree Apprenticeships. The site showcases vacancies, video guides for applying, and an AI-powered CV Builder. Students are encouraged to sign up using their school email, and we often invite the CEO Carlo Weaver in for assemblies. (https://apprentago.co.uk/)
