The Heathland is a Hounslow maintained secondary school. The Governors of the school have legal responsibilities set out in Education Acts of Parliament and Department for Education regulations. For example, the Governing Body must ensure statutory policies are in place, they must set a budget for the school and they are responsible for the appointment of the Head and Deputy Heads.

Members of the Governing Body are comprised from elected parents, co-opted governors who bring their skills and knowledge of the local community, one elected staff governor and the Headmaster. The Governing Body meets formally once per term; sub committees also normally meet termly.
