Design and Technology Department Successes 2025-26: 

The Heathland School Design and Technology Department has welcomed several new staff this year who have introduced a range of new ideas. The department has continued to offer numerous extra-curricular Technology Clubs which were popular and well attended.  These included informal drop-in sessions as well as official Technology Coursework clubs for Design and Technology, Food Technology and Textiles.  In addition there were ICT clubs, and practical workshop sessions. 

This Year saw the successful rollout of new Key Stage 3 projects in Design and Technology Product Design including a wood joint and construction project in Year 8 along with a new Pewter casting project. In Year 9, students have started their flight mobile project whilst Year 7 have a new Computer Aided Design course to enjoy.  

 

 

The Textiles department is looking forward to the introduction of several new Key Stage 3 projects for 2026. 

 

F1 STEM Racing Challenge: 

The Technology Department has entered the F1 STEM racing challenge with a group of Key Stage 3 and 4 students who are putting the department's new 3D Printers to good use.  We wish them luck in the competition. 

Textiles and Food Exams: 

The Textiles and Food departments successfully completed their Year 11 practical exams with students working under exam conditions to create dishes of Food within a set time and produce samples for Textiles demonstrating their creativity and skill. 

 

Art and Technology Key Stage 3 Exhibition: 

The Textiles and Product Design Department have joined forces with the Creative Arts faculty at Heathlands to present students work at the Key Stage 3 Exhibition. The Department is grateful to the Art Department for allowing us to exhibit work alongside them.
