Head of Department - Mr M Booker MA, BA Hons
The aim of the History Department is to provide each pupil with a sound understanding of the past and help them develop a range of writing and analytical skills. The teaching combines studies in breadth and depth through examination of British, European and global events.
This is achieved through the study of a range of topics included in the National Curriculum: Our Place in History, Ancient Empires, Power in Medieval Britain, Monarchy & Parliament in Britain 1500-1900, The British Empire & the Slave Trade and the Twentieth Century World Wars
At GCSE we use the Edexcel exam board and students study a History of Crime and Punishment, Superpower Relations during the Cold War, Weimar and Nazi Germany and Elizabeth I.
We offer two A Levels, both using Edexcel: History and Politics. In history students study 20th Century Britain, the British Empire and 20th Century USA. In addition they will study the beginnings of the Cold War for coursework. In politics students study a wide range of topics including how the British government works, ideologies and global politics.
