What an amazing time we have had following Chelsea Women Football Club this year.
For our first experience we headed off to Stamford Bridge as they took on Manchester City Women FC in the second leg of the Women's Champions League Quarter Final, after a 2-0 loss in the first leg. Chelsea came out firing and entertained the crowd with their fast-paced attacking play. Manchester City couldn't find a way to stop them or overcome them. We were ecstatic that our seats were in our lucky Shed End behind the goal where the goals were scored. This led them to a battle with Barcelona Femeni FC, the current Champions League Champions for the last two years.
Back again at Stamford Bridge for the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona Femeni FC. A tough ask considering the first leg loss of 4-1. Chelsea managed to take a hold of the game and had most of the possession although struggled to put the ball in between the posts. Barcelona had limited opportunities but took their chances and shut the door on Chelsea's pursuit of the illustrious trophy they so want to win and their quadruple trophy opportunity.
For our third trip we headed off to Wembley Stadium for the Women's FA Cup Final against Manchester United Women. Not an easy task with all the engineering works but the teachers got us there.
What an atmosphere from the 74, 000+ people in attendance. Chelsea took control in the game from the beginning with so many attempts, some so close yet either side of the net. Until a penalty taken by the powerful Baltimore who has performed so well in her new attacking role. Watch the video of the penalty and learn how a great penalty is taken! The crowd went wild with the Chelsea flags and songs as well as the well-known mascot Basil all dressed in blue and white entertaining the crowd. One goal became two then three to finish off the game. Manchester United Women had nothing to challenge Chelsea with so the FA Cup was added to their Triple Crown achievement.
We look forward to more opportunities to watch live sporting events as well as Chelsea Women's FC next season.
Thank you to all the teachers that supported these trips and made them possible. #daysweremember
