Department Successes
This year has been an exciting and highly successful one for the Art Department, with students benefiting from a wide range of creative opportunities both in and beyond the classroom.
A highlight of the year was our vibrant Art Week, which featured cross-curricular collaboration between Art, Photography, Design Technology, Science and Music. Students explored creativity from multiple perspectives, culminating in a range of engaging and inspiring outcomes. As part of Art Week, we also hosted a whole-school Big Draw Event in the main hall, bringing together students from all year groups in a celebration of drawing and artistic expression.
Our Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 Exhibition was another major success, showcasing the exceptional talent, dedication and creativity of our GCSE and A-Level students. The exhibition provided an opportunity for students, staff, parents and the wider community to celebrate the outstanding work produced across the department.
In the Summer Term, we were delighted to host a Key Stage 3 Exhibition, showcasing outstanding work from Art, Design Technology and History. The exhibition celebrated students' creativity, craftsmanship and subject knowledge, highlighting the breadth of talent and achievement across the curriculum.
We were also pleased to strengthen our links with the local community through a collaborative project with Beavers Primary School. Our Year 12 students planned and delivered a series of portraiture workshops for Year 5 pupils, developing their own leadership and communication skills while inspiring younger students through creative learning experiences.
Students enriched their understanding of art, photography and design through a range of educational visits, including trips to Kew Gardens, the Mall Galleries, The Photographers' Gallery, Tate Modern and the National Gallery. These visits provided valuable first-hand experiences of professional practice and world-class exhibitions, helping students to broaden their creative knowledge and understanding.
Sixth Form students further expanded their cultural experiences by attending the highly anticipated Late at the V&A event, enjoying exclusive access to exhibitions, talks and creative activities in a unique evening setting.
The annual House Photography Competition once again proved to be a tremendous success, attracting an impressive number of entries from students across all year groups, as well as several enthusiastic staff submissions. The competition showcased a wide range of creativity and technical skill, with all entries carefully judged by our Art and Photography Captains.
Alongside these events, our Key Stage 3 Art Clubs continued to thrive throughout the year, providing a vibrant and inspiring environment where students could explore their creativity, experiment with new techniques and develop their artistic confidence beyond the classroom.
We are also incredibly proud that, following two years of collaborative work between the Art, Performing Arts, Design Technology and English departments, the school was awarded the prestigious Artsmark Award from the Arts Council. This significant achievement recognises the school's commitment to providing high-quality arts and cultural opportunities for students, staff and the wider community, and reflects our dedication to ensuring creativity remains at the heart of school life.
