Here at the Heathland School, we want to help you succeed with a well-rounded education. Alongside your academic studies, you will be allocated 2 periods of enrichment on your timetable and to help boost your UCAS applications, job and apprenticeship applications. You will get the chance to explore new skills and make new friends along the way!

We encourage as much uptake and participation as possible, because your Personal Statement requires 1/3 of the writing to be about activities you do OUTSIDE of your academic subjects. Each year, our enrichment options change. Here are just a few of our recent activities on offer:

  • Duke of Edinburgh Silver
  • Sports (including use of the climbing wall and astroturf)

  • Facilitating a food bank to local families using Fair Share

In addition to enrichment periods, we also post many opportunities such as career-based talks, online workshops and lectures, virtual work experience, medical entry guidance programmes and competitions. Here are a few of our opportunities taken up by recent students:

Attending the Young Professionals events provided myself with direct access to top employers like PwC, UBS, and Lloyds Banking Group and I was able to learn about banking apprenticeships and courses, hear from industry leaders and experts of that field, participate in workshops, learn how to develop a personal brand, enhance my application through crafted CVs/personal statements and learning how to impress at assessment centres. Also, having numerous networking opportunities to secure roles and communicate with like-minded individuals.

Throughout year 12 I volunteered at Netball Club, am the Newton House Captain, a Y12 Prefect working in Resources selling equipment, Geography Subject Ambassador, Future Leader programme member, Team 20 Tutoring & Mentoring, and Most Able French Languages Tutor (in school). I attend Electronics Club, listen to Diary of a CEO Podcasts and read current affairs articles daily, completed Physics Olympiad BPO, engage in Physics Mentoring, achieved a Silver in the Senior Maths Challenge, engage in Maths Mentoring, presented a TED Talk on The Goldilocks Zone: Why "Just Right" is better than "Just Certain"​ focusing on The Dunning-Kruger Effect and Imposter Syndrome and how these phenomena can affect education. I was selected for the Dyson Foundation Workshop (In School), researched and drafted an essay on The Holodomor in Ukraine for a history competition, and I recently won a 'Highly Commended' Award for my economics essay on the varying implications of international trade policies in the modern world run by the RGS (Royal Geographical Society) in partnership with the Financial Times. I also completed my Silver DofE award!
