The Heathland School 16-19 tuition fund Statement

The 16 to 19 tuition fund is a £96 million one-off fund for the 2020 to 2021 academic year only. It is ring fenced funding for schools, colleges and all other 16 to 19 providers to support small group tuition for 16 to 19 students in English, maths, and other courses where learning has been disrupted. Although the actual tuition does not need to be for GCSE English or maths, the students supported all need to be those who had not achieved grade 4 or above in at least one of those subjects at this level by age 16.

The Heathland School is eligible to receive £3379.87 from this fund for small group tuition, following the guidance. The fund will primarily be used to provide small group tuition for sixth form students in English and/or maths.  However, the provision will not be limited to tuition for English and maths, but will also be used to help students on to successful destinations and to support them throughout and following on from the pandemic.

The school intends to use the funding to support students that have yet to achieve a grade 4 in English and/or Maths on a Level 3 pathway through:

  • The purchase of bespoke resources for students targeted in the tuition catch up and use these to support their learning
  • Running additional small group classes for these students during the school day and as Twilight sessions particularly in preparation for GCSE retakes in the Autumn 2020 and Summer 2021.

The Heathland School is committed to ensuring the tuition fund is used in accordance with the Government’s guidance on the 16 to 19 tuition fund by:

  • Producing this statement explaining how we will use the funding in line with guidance to prioritise support for disadvantaged students.
  • Recording the use of funding, including reference to the individual students that receive the support the needs of those students, the number of hours of tuition delivered and retain the necessary evidence of the tuition provided.
  • Monitoring the impact of the tuition based on student performance and progress in their courses and their preparation for and confidence in applying to future destinations, including higher education, employment and apprenticeships.
  • Delivering the extra tuition and spend the associated funding in the 2020-2021 academic year.
  • Notify Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) of any unspent funding from this fund in order for it to be reclaimed
