The subject of Art, Craft and Design provides opportunities for students to become visually and aesthetically literate.  Students will embark on a broad-based course exploring practical, critical and contextual work through a range of 2D and or 3D processes and media. The course encourages students to work independently and create their visual ideas. You will be able to choose a specialist area of study that suits your individual interest and abilities.

Entry Requirements

A GCSE in Art and Design is preferred.

Course Content/Outline

A Level Basic Design: drawing, printing (water, acrylic oil) printing, photography, mixed media. Art History and Contemporary Practice.

Component 1: Personal Investigation and independent portfolio, accompanied with a 1500-3000 word essay. (60%)

Component 1 continued: Personal Investigation and independent portfolio, accompanied with a 1500-3000 word essay. (60%)

Component 2: Externally set examination assignment.  15 hours (40%)

As a part of the course students make visits to art galleries and museums are an integral part of the course, as well as run a community arts program for a local primary school. The students regularly visit galleries in London, enhancing their knowledge of the art-world helping them to develop their own creativity and style and in preparation for Personal Investigation and Externally Set Assignment. There are also well-established links with the Slade School of Art and Kingston University’s School of Art for portfolio development to assist students interested in Foundation and degree courses and careers in the Arts.

There are many possible degree options, these include: Architecture, Art Conservation, Art History, Art Therapy, Fashion Design, Film/Video Production, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design, Jewellery Design, Photography, Production Design, Textile Design, Theatre Design, Three-dimensional Design and Web Design.
